Description: A new cable fault location method based on wavelet reconstruction is proposed. In this method the difference between the currents of faulty phase and sound phase under the high voltage pulse excitation is used as the measured signal and is decomposed in multi-scale by wavelet transform, then reconstructed in single scale. Comparing with traditional fault location method by travelling wave, the presented method will not be interfered by the reflected wave from the branch joint of cables or from other positions where the impedances are not matched and not be influenced by fault types, otherwise, the reflected waves can be recognized even the faulty position is near to the measuring terminal, at the same time, the influence of the wave speed uncertainty can be reduced. The correctness of the proposed method is proved by simulation results.

The effect of noise could be reduced only at the cost of the bandwidth of the channel which is again undesired as bandwidth is a precious resource. Hence to regenerate original signal, it is tried to reduce the power of the noise signal or in the other way, raise the power level of the informative signal, at the receiver end this leads to improvement in the signal to noise ratio (SNR). Description: A new approach for fingerprint verification, based on wavelets and pseudo Zernike moments (PZMs), is discussed. PZMs are robust to noisy images, invariant to rotation and have a good image reconstruction capability [4]. PZMs have been used for global analysis and so they are used to extract global features (the shape of the fingerprint image). Wavelets are good at local analysis and so they help to extract local features (minutiae) from a fingerprint. Therefore, this hybrid approach extracts most significant features from the fingerprint images and achieve better verification rate. Different types of wavelets are used for the study but the result shows that Symmlet orthonormal wavelet of order 8 gives best verification rate.

The main idea is to extract the different modes of a signal by designing an appropriate wavelet filter bank. This construction leads us to a new wavelet transform, called the empirical wavelet transform. Many experiments are presented showing the usefulness of this method compared to the classic EMD.
